Choosing Your Contractor
The following information was made available by the Rhode Island Contractors' Registration and Licensing Board. These are suggestions to help make your construction experience more pleasant for all parties.
- Solicit multiple bids.
- Do not automatically accept the lowest bid.
- Ask the contractor for references - we at Ark Home Improvement have a page dedicated to references.
- Give special consideration to contractors who are members of a professional builders' association or business association. Ark Home Improvement is a member of the BBB.
- Make sure the contractor is registered with the State of Rhode Island Contractors Registration Board and Licensing Board. They can be reached at 401-222-1268.
Information beneficial to consumers when entering into a contract with a contractor:
- Make sure the work contract is in writing.
- Make sure the contractor is RI Contractor registered.
- What is the work time frame?
- What are the payment terms?
- Are sub-contractors licensed?
- Ask for all copies of insurance.
- Is there a warranty?
- Permits required or included?
